MIGSO-PCUBED –
Roadrunner BET Programme
Why did Fortescue Zero in partnership with MIGSO-PCUBED – Roadrunner BET Programme win LCS Sustainability Award?
Fortescue Zero’s Roadrunner programme was recognised for pioneering Lean-driven decarbonisation of mining operations through battery-electric haul trucks.
Judges praised the initiative for combining environmental impact with operational excellence: each truck removes 3,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, with subpack build lead times reduced from eight weeks to 1.5 days. Lean tools including 5S, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, Poka-Yoke, and Obeya rooms were applied at scale across UK and Australian sites. Judges noted the initiative’s rapid 22-month delivery, innovative cross-continental collaboration, and embedding of sustainability into daily operations. The programme was recognised as a benchmark for sustainable industrial transformation, demonstrating how Lean principles can deliver measurable environmental, efficiency, and cultural benefits, while creating a replicable model for scaling low-carbon innovation.
"Winning the LCS Sustainability Award was very meaningful to our team, as it recognised the effort and impact of the work we completed. The awards ceremony was a great moment for those who have contributed their hard work and talent, and it showcased the impact Lean can have."
